Novel Section Revised

As many of you already noticed, I changed the Novel section of my website so that it wasn’t as clunky.  For those of you not familiar with such technical terms, clunky is a highly technical term.

I removed a page because I thought the information on it was presented elsewhere on the site.  If you have a different opinion or other thoughts on the matter, please contact me.

Based your responses, I’ll know if you concur with my decision or if you’d prefer to have the page back in its usual position.

If you’d like to share your thoughts with me, please contact me.

Editing Self-Evident Truths

On June 4th, I posted a blog sharing with you that my latest book, Self-Evident Truths, was still in the works.  Specifically, I said that editors hadn’t finished their parts of the puzzle and I didn’t have a firm date for its release.

Several of you volunteered to help edit the book in an effort to get it released sooner rather than later.  A couple of you have advanced degrees in English and work experience in the publishing industry.  The talents of those who follow this blog never cease to amaze me.

Intrigued by the offers you made, I made some phone calls and sent some emails to gain some additional insight into your offers.  Without going into all of the hub-bub that occurred, suffice it to say that you’re going to have to wait a bit longer for the release of Self-Evident Truths.

I sincerely appreciate your offers of assistance.  My current editors weren’t quite as smitten with the idea of new sets of eyeballs reviewing my efforts and passing along their thoughts to me.  My current editors made comments about too many chefs in the kitchen spoiling the dinner.

If you’d like to share your thoughts with me on this topic or something else, please contact me.  As I’ve said in the past, I read every comment.  I don’t respond to all of them, but I read everything that comes to my attention.

As always, thanks for your continued support!

Self-Evident Truths Update (Again)

t wish I could say that release of my next book, Self-Evident Truths, was imminent, but I can’t.  It’s still being edited by a number of people who are trying to make it better than the version they received from yours truly.

Without getting into the weeds, there is a difference of opinion on a key issue in the book.  I want it to stay in and they want it heavily modified or out altogether.  In the old days, this would be an impasse.  I’m sure we’ll think of a way to work through it, but, in the meantime, the books remains digitally torn apart in a number of computers.

Unlike Humpty-Dumpty, we’ll be able to put Self-Evident Truths back together, but for the time being, you’re going to have to sit tight.  I wish I could tell you when you could expect it, but I don’t have that information now.  When I get it, I’ll pass it along to you.

Germane Comments

A few of you contacted me regarding the germane and G-rated comments I’ve made in previous posts.  At the risk of repeating myself, I included those terms as a way to corral some of the more creative readers I have.

Over the years, I’ve received comments that run the gamut from something you could ask at 12 noon in front of your mother to remarks that would make the stereotypical sailor blush.  I’m not trying to limit your comments, but I would like them to be germane to the topic at hand.

Perhaps the most extreme example was the time I asked for your thoughts on continuing to provide my books in PDF format.  In response, I received a number of very helpful and well thought-out comments.  I also received a host of photos that were well past being suggestive.  Some also included remarks that made we wonder if they were made just for their perceived shock value.

This isn’t my first rodeo, so to speak, and I’ve heard things that might permanently warp the psyche of a young sailor.  Having said that, please keep your comments civil and leave out the vulgarity, profanity, and obscenity.

To help facilitate that, I’ve had a long-standing policy of approving comments that people wish to put on this website.  Again, I’m not trying to stifle conversation, but it seems that over the last few years, the ability to hold a lucid, coherent, and informed discussion eludes more and more Americans.

If you want to see your comments on my website, please keep the above in mind.

If you’d like to share your thoughts with me, please contact me.  If you’re going to send me a profanity-laced, expletive-driven rant, don’t waste your time, or mine.

As always, thanks for your continued support!

Update on Links in Digital Books

On September 11, 2018, I posted a note about putting links in the digital versions of my novels.  What I intended as nothing more than an update turned into a conversation regarding the use of links in my novels and how they affect the story in the book.

While I don’t have a scientific study on which to rely, I can safely say that the overwhelming majority of the over 28,000 people who shared their thoughts with me believe that the links are helpful.  Thanks to each of you who took the time to share your thoughts with me on this.  Even in those instances where we disagreed, I still learned something.  Thank you for that.

Rather than go on in some length about what I’ve learned, suffice it to say that the links are beneficial for those interested in the source information found in the links.  As an added benefit, the links don’t take the reader away from the story.  If you’re interested in following the link, click on it.  If you’d rather stay focused on the events unfolding in the book, keep reading.

I intend to keep using links in my books in the days ahead.  I don’t set a limit or have a goal for the links in the novels.  Instead, I use them when I believe they provide information that might be helpful in making a point in the book.  You are free to click on the links or simply ignore them.

I did hear from some of you who would like me to provide a footnote-like version of the links in the books.  I tried to do this several ways, but each time, it quickly became clear that providing another site with the links broken out by book, chapter, and page would prove to be a burdensome task.  If any of you has a way to accomplish that feat that doesn’t impose hours of work on me, please contact me.

If you’d like to share your thoughts on my books, photos, motorcycle rides, or anything else that is G-rated, please contact me.

As always, thanks for your continued support!

Book Signing by Invitation

After my post on January 22, 2018, several of you contacted me about doing a public book signing.  I’m pleased to announce that I’ll be spending two hours signing books and listening to you and your thoughts.

However, there is a twist to the upcoming book signing.  It’s by invitation only.  Don’t think that I won’t enjoy spending time with the people who read my books.  That’s not the issue at all, from my perspective.

I always thought that book signings were an attempt to drum-up business.  After all, in order to get a book signed you have to bring a copy with you or buy one while you’re waiting in line.  I don’t have any problem with getting more business, but book signings always seemed like a semi-sordid affair.  Don’t ask me why because I’m not sure I can put my finger on it.

Having said all that, I’ve decided to go ahead and sign copies of my book to those of you who visited my website and let me know you’d be interested in such a get together.  I put a small request for your thoughts on this topic on one of the website’s pages and was surprised (in a good way) by your response.

Without beating this topic to death, I’ll see all of you who signed up in the near future.  If things go well, you just might convince me to do it again!  We’ll have to wait and see if those involved enjoyed the festivities before reaching a conclusion.

If you’d like to share your thoughts with me or offer your opinion on this or any other topic germane to this post, please contact me.

As always, thanks for your continued support!

Self-evident Truths Update

On February 12, 2018, I shared with you that I was working on my latest book.  I wish I could tell you that everything is going well, but that’s simply not the case.

Here’s where things stand as of today.  I’ve finished the book and it’s being edited by people who do such things.  As always happens, mistakes are found, suggestions are made, and then changes and updates have to be inserted into the manuscript before it’s published.

Due to the number of edit-related concerns, the date this book will come out isn’t known to me.  This isn’t to say that there is a huge re-write in the offing, but it is to let you know that sometimes editors and writers don’t see eye-to-eye.

I’m confident that things will get worked out and issues resolved.  In the meantime, I promise that Self-evident Truths will come out before the end of this calendar year.  As I learn more about the comments and suggestions made, I’ll have a better handle on how much more work needs to be put into the novel before it’s publicly available.

If you’d like to comment on this, or anything else, please contact me.

As always, thanks for your continued support!
